High-Value Flora

Many species of wild plant and fungus are economically valuable for medicinal, culinary and cosmetic purposes, and in some places they are unsustainably harvested – reducing biodiversity and habitats, and accelerating desertification. I have worked on a number of initiatives to reverse this environmental damage, and create decent sustainable livelihoods for local families, facilitating:

  • business-NGO- multilateral bank collaborations
  • introduction of sustainable harvesting techniques
  • cultivation of formerly wild species, including procurement of seed and nursery stock
  • bringing export-quality processing, packaging and certification into the country / community
